DUMUN staff expect delegates to actively engage with each other and contribute to their committee’s work. Participation during formal sessions is evaluated based on speeches and motions. During informal sessions, delegates are expected to work with others toward solutions. Individual effort is considered, especially for ESL delegates. Caucusing should always be in English. Formal speeches may be delivered in a country’s official language only if English translation is provided immediately.
Delegates should engage inclusively and respectfully in both formal and informal sessions. This includes reaching out to ESL delegates, listening to speeches, and sharing leadership. Disagreements should remain professional and constructive. Comments about another delegate’s portrayal are inappropriate. Undiplomatic actions like yelling or exclusion are not allowed. Well-prepared delegates often become leaders, but must remain inclusive.
Delegates should use DUMUN rules to further committee work, not hinder it. Staff are patient with new delegates early in the conference. Disruptive motions are not allowed. Delegates with questions about rules should approach the dais informally.
