DUMUN Policies

Conference Policies

Applicable to all delegates in grades 7–12

1. Delegate Eligibility

DUMUN is open to students currently in grades 7 through 12. Delegates from all schools and experience levels are welcome—whether DUMUN is your first conference or your tenth.

2. Advisor Policy

Each school must provide at least one adult advisor to accompany their delegation. Advisors may be teachers, parents, or another school-approved adult.

3. Tech Conference Policy

DUMUN is a technology-based conference. Delegates must bring a device to use during committee (laptop strongly preferred; tablet or iPad acceptable if necessary).

Due to school device restrictions, most school-issued laptops will not allow document sharing across school domains. We recommend:

• Bringing a personal or family laptop
  
  

• Borrowing a device from a parent, friend, or local library
  
  

• Bringing a tablet if a laptop is unavailable

4. Dress Code

All delegates must wear Western Business Attire during the conference.

For boys:

• Button-down shirt, blazer, dress pants, dress shoes (tie optional)
  
  

For girls:

• Blouses, business skirts, slacks, dresses, blazers
  
  

• Dress shoes, flats, or heels
  
  

Not permitted: sandals, gym shoes, slippers, jeans, or casual clothing

5. Committee Attendance

Delegates must attend all committee sessions. Roll will be taken at the beginning of each session.
If a delegate will be absent or late, advisors must inform the committee chair in advance using the contact listed on the DUMUN website.

6. Authentic Representation

Delegates are expected to represent the official stance of their assigned country or character—not personal opinions. Diplomacy, collaboration, and creativity are encouraged.

Delegates unsure of how to approach their stance may reach out to their chair or dumunsg@gmail.com for clarification—no penalty will be given for asking questions.

7. Harassment & Discrimination Policy

DUMUN has zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability, or any other personal identity.

Violations may result in:

• Removal from committee
  
  

• Disqualification from awards
  
  

• Expulsion from the conference (no refund)
  
  

• Ban from future DUMUN events
  
  

Concerns can be reported to committee chairs or the Secretariat at any time.

8. Plagiarism & AI Policy

All delegate work must be original. Use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) or copying from another source without proper citation is strictly prohibited.

This includes:

• Position papers
  
  

• Directives, working papers, draft resolutions
  
  

• Any documents created before or during committee
  
  

Citations are encouraged (MLA format preferred but not required).

Violations may result in:

• Loss or downgrade of awards
  
  

• Material inspection by the Secretariat
  
  

• Advisor notification
  
  

9. Pre-Writing Policy

Pre-writing is prohibited. Delegates may not bring in pre-written clauses, directives, or resolutions. All official writing must occur during committee.

Delegates may bring:

• Research materials
  
  

• Printed background information
  
  

• Talking points or notes (not formatted as formal clauses)
  
  

Pre-writing violations are treated the same as plagiarism.

10. Technology Use in Committee

Technology must be used only for committee purposes (writing documents, conducting research, communicating with bloc members).
Use of devices for social media, texting, games, or unrelated browsing may result in disciplinary action.

11. Social Media Policy

Delegates may not use social media (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat) during committee sessions.
Inappropriate or disruptive behavior online may result in:

• Suspension from committee
  
  

• Disqualification from awards
  
  

• Removal from the conference
  
  

12. Substance Policy

The use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, vaping devices, or illegal substances is strictly prohibited.
Violators will be removed from the conference and reported to their school.

13. Photography & Media

Delegates consent to being photographed or filmed by DUMUN staff for conference promotion and archives.

14. Accommodations

DUMUN is committed to inclusivity. If you require accommodations (disability-related, dietary, or technology needs), contact dumunsg@gmail.com in advance.

15. What to Bring to DUMUN

Each delegate should bring:

• A working laptop or tablet (non-school-issued if possible)
  
  

• A printed copy of their position paper
  
  

• Any research materials or notes
  
  

• A refillable water bottle
  
  

Lunch and water will be provided.

16. Awards

DUMUN recognizes exceptional performance through the following awards in each committee:

• Best Delegate
  
  

• Outstanding Delegate(s)
  
  

• Honorable Mention(s)
